Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has shed light on the strategic efforts undertaken to counter the allegations of rigging during Nigeria's 2023 presidential elections. Speaking at the Spokesperson Summit in Abuja, Mohammed detailed the evidence-based approach that successfully reshaped both local and international perceptions.
The allegations, primarily centered around delays in uploading results to the IReV portal, were compounded by misinformation and misplaced sentiments. According to Mohammed, sections of the international media relied on questionable pre-election opinion polls and social media narratives, which inaccurately suggested a victory for the Labour Party (LP) candidate.
"Our approach was rooted in transparency and facts," Mohammed stated. "We engaged with local and international media, think tanks, and influential organizations to present irrefutable evidence of how the election was conducted and won."
Mohammed emphasized that these efforts were instrumental in correcting misconceptions and ensuring that the global narrative aligned with the facts. "We demonstrated that the APC candidate's victory was both legitimate and constitutional, dispelling any doubts about the integrity of the process," he concluded.
