In the wake of escalating violence and tragic loss of life in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has made an urgent appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to treat the ongoing killings as a national emergency. The death toll from recent attacks has risen to a devastating 72, leaving communities shattered and families grieving.
Governor Alia expressed deep concern over the alarming security situation during his visit to affected areas, where he witnessed firsthand the destruction and despair caused by the attacks. He condemned the violence, describing it as an assault on defenseless citizens, and called for immediate and decisive action from federal authorities.
"The people of Benue are under siege," Governor Alia stated. "These attacks are not random; they are calculated efforts to displace our people and take over their ancestral lands. We cannot stand by while innocent lives are lost and communities are destroyed."
The governor emphasized the need for enhanced security measures, including the deployment of additional personnel and resources to affected areas. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities, while discouraging any attempts to resort to self-help.
Governor Alia assured the people of Benue that his administration is committed to restoring peace and stability across the state. Emergency services and relief materials have been dispatched to support displaced families, and efforts are underway to rebuild affected communities.
