Hon. Yerima Lawan Kareto, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Commissioner of Trade, Commerce, and Industry, has extended a bold invitation to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Kareto has urged the Minister to visit Borno State, specifically the town of Damasak, to experience the realities of the region's security challenges firsthand.
This call comes in response to recent remarks attributed to Minister Idris, which appeared to downplay the severity of renewed Boko Haram attacks in Borno. The Minister's comments, later clarified by his media aide as a misrepresentation, have sparked widespread public criticism and concern.
Kareto, who hails from Damasak, emphasized the importance of understanding the ground realities before making public statements. "I personally invite Minister Idris to accompany me to Damasak. This visit will provide him with an opportunity to witness the situation firsthand and offer an unreserved apology to the people of Borno," Kareto stated.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has also raised alarms over the resurgence of Boko Haram activities, describing the situation as a setback for the region. The Governor has called for increased federal intervention to address the escalating violence, which has resulted in the dislodgement of military formations and the loss of innocent lives.
