Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Professor Usman Yusuf, has made serious allegations against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Speaking in a televised interview, Professor Yusuf accused the government of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a tool to suppress dissent and silence critics.

Professor Yusuf recounted his recent detention by the EFCC, describing it as an attempt to intimidate him for his outspoken criticism of government policies. He alleged that EFCC operatives stormed his home without presenting an arrest warrant, treated him in a manner akin to a criminal, and denied him basic rights, including bail. He spent six days in EFCC custody and an additional 24 days in Kuje Prison, which he described as a period of reflection and spiritual renewal.

“This government deliberately denied me bail to shake me up, all in an effort to silence me,” said Professor Yusuf. “But I am not someone who can be silenced. Criticizing a government in a democracy is the legitimate right of every citizen.”

Professor Yusuf further criticized the administration for what he described as an attempt to stifle democratic criticism and create a one-party state. He drew attention to President Tinubu’s history as a pro-democracy activist, expressing disappointment in the current administration’s actions.!
