The Etche ethnic nationality in Rivers State has publicly disassociated itself from Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service of Rivers State, following his recent allegations against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. In a press conference held in Port Harcourt, Etche leaders described Dr. Nwaeke as a figure lacking credibility and integrity, accusing him of financial misconduct and spreading falsehoods for political gain.
The leaders emphasized that Dr. Nwaeke's actions were not representative of the Etche people, highlighting his exclusion from key community discussions due to his alleged unstable character. They further revealed that his recent press conference in Abuja, where he accused Governor Fubara of orchestrating the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, was influenced by external political sponsors.
Prince Ogbonna Nwuke, a former member of the House of Representatives and spokesperson for the group, stated, "Dr. Nwaeke's baseless allegations are a desperate attempt to please his political paymasters. His actions are driven by personal financial interests rather than the welfare of the Etche people."
The Etche Nation has called on security agencies to investigate Dr. Nwaeke's conduct, urging them to hold him accountable for allegedly spreading falsehoods against the Governor and other prominent leaders in Rivers State. The group believes that such an investigation will serve as a deterrent to others who may attempt to exploit political situations for personal gain.
In addition, the Etche leaders condemned the imposition of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of the Governor, Deputy Governor, and members of the State House of Assembly. They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider this decision, warning that it could have adverse effects on the state's stability and development.
