The Anambra State Government has confirmed the partial demolition of the head office of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd., located in Umudim, Nnewi. The action, which took place on April 17, 2025, has stirred significant public interest and concern.
In a statement released today, the State Ministry of Lands and Urban Development clarified that the demolition was carried out following due legal process and was necessitated by ongoing urban renewal initiatives aimed at restoring order to encroached public spaces and ensuring compliance with approved building regulations.
According to the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Madubuko, “The portion of land affected by this action lies within a government-acquired right-of-way earmarked for strategic infrastructure development. Multiple notices had been issued to the company regarding the encroachment and need for compliance.”
The government emphasized that the exercise was not targeted at Innoson Motors as a business entity but was part of a wider enforcement drive affecting several structures across the state that were found to be in violation of physical planning laws.
Reacting to the development, representatives of Innoson Motors expressed shock and dismay over the demolition, alleging that the company was not given adequate notice and that the action may have been politically motivated. The company has vowed to seek legal redress.
Governor Charles Soludo, while addressing the situation, called for calm and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to industrial growth and lawful governance. “We value every investor and business operating in Anambra. However, compliance with the law is non-negotiable,” he said.
