Renowned Niger Delta rights activist, Ann-Kio Briggs, has raised serious concerns over the actions of Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), appointed by President Bola Tinubu. Speaking on a televised program, Briggs accused Ibas of exacerbating the political crisis in Rivers State, contrary to his mandate to restore peace.

Briggs alleged that Ibas has taken unconstitutional steps, including the removal of key government officials and symbolic actions that undermine the authority of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “Siminalayi Fubara remains the governor of Rivers State,” Briggs asserted, emphasizing that the administrator’s actions have only fueled tensions in the state.

The activist also highlighted the growing unrest among Rivers State residents, with protests erupting in Port Harcourt. While some groups support the emergency rule, others demand the immediate reinstatement of Governor Fubara.

Briggs called on the federal government to reconsider its approach, urging President Tinubu to restore democratic governance in Rivers State. She expressed hope that the President would reverse the state of emergency before the stipulated six-month period.
