Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, of lying about the selection process of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election. Wike, in a statement released earlier today, claimed that Atiku’s remarks on the matter were not only false but also misleading, particularly in the holy month of Ramadan, a time known for reflection and truthfulness.

Wike pointed out that Atiku had publicly misrepresented the decision-making process that led to Okowa’s nomination as his running mate, suggesting that the claim lacked honesty and transparency. According to Wike, the truth about the selection was far different from what Atiku had stated.

“I find it deeply troubling that Atiku, during Ramadan—a period of fasting and reflection—would choose to mislead the public about the circumstances surrounding the selection of Governor Okowa. The reality is that Okowa was chosen for political expediency, not on merit or mutual agreement. Atiku is fully aware of this,” Wike remarked in his statement.

Former Rivers State Governor emphasized the importance of integrity, particularly during Ramadan, a month that calls for sincerity, unity, and self-discipline. Wike further called on the public to critically examine the statements made by Atiku and urged that future discourse be grounded in the truth.
