In a dramatic and unprecedented turn of events, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was locked out of the State House of Assembly complex today by a group of pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers. The incident occurred amid growing tensions between the Governor and certain members of the state legislature, who are loyal to the former Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The standoff unfolded as Governor Fubara attempted to attend a scheduled session at the House of Assembly. However, he was met with resistance from lawmakers aligned with his predecessor, who barred him from entering the complex, citing what they called "unconstitutional actions" taken by the current administration. The blockade sparked a heated exchange, further escalating the political rift that has divided the state.

The lawmakers involved in the lockout have expressed their displeasure with Governor Fubara’s leadership, claiming that his policies and appointments have undermined the legacy of Wike, who served as Governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023. They have also accused Fubara’s administration of failing to engage the legislature effectively, thus breaching the principle of separation of powers.

In response, Governor Fubara condemned the actions as politically motivated and an attempt to destabilize his administration. Speaking to the press after the incident, the Governor stated, “This is an unfortunate development that is politically charged. I remain committed to the welfare and progress of the people of Rivers State, and I will not be distracted by attempts to undermine my leadership.”

The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with citizens and political observers questioning the growing divide within the state government. While supporters of Governor Fubara have rallied behind him, there are concerns about the potential for further political instability if the standoff is not resolved quickly.

Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Chris Finebone, condemned the actions of the lawmakers and called for immediate dialogue to resolve the crisis. “This is not the time for political infighting. The people of Rivers State deserve better, and it is our duty to ensure that governance proceeds smoothly and without interruption,” Finebone remarked.
