The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a significant shipment of illicit cocaine concealed in prayer beads and shoes at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The operation, which took place earlier this week, marks another critical victory in the agency’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

The consignment, originating from South America, was cleverly disguised within the intricate designs of prayer beads and hidden compartments inside shoes. A routine inspection by NDLEA operatives, utilizing advanced scanning technology and intelligence reports, led to the discovery of the narcotics.

The cocaine, weighing several kilograms, was carefully concealed to evade detection by standard security checks. However, the vigilance and expertise of NDLEA personnel ensured the successful interception, preventing the drugs from entering the country.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Retd.) expressed his satisfaction with the operation and the dedication of the agency’s personnel. "This operation demonstrates our unyielding commitment to combatting the illegal drug trade, which continues to threaten the health, security, and well-being of Nigerians. We will continue to leverage advanced technology, intelligence, and coordinated efforts with international law enforcement to disrupt the networks responsible for trafficking these dangerous substances."

The cocaine seized in this operation has an estimated street value of several million Naira, underscoring the significant economic and social impact the successful interception has had in preventing the distribution of harmful narcotics.

The NDLEA has continued to enhance its efforts in curbing drug trafficking, which remains one of the major threats to national security. The agency is working closely with local and international partners to ensure that those responsible for the drug trade are apprehended and prosecuted.

"We remain committed to strengthening our efforts against drug-related crimes and ensuring that anyone involved in such criminal activities is held accountable," General Marwa added.
