The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has announced a significant financial allocation aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving public health facilities in the state. The Assembly plans to invest N2 billion into the renovation and expansion of its legislative complex, alongside an additional N960 million dedicated to enhancing health centres and other constituency-based development projects.
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Balarabe Abdullahi, disclosed the plans during a special session on Tuesday. He explained that the allocation for the renovation and expansion of the legislative complex will help create a more conducive working environment for lawmakers and staff, thereby improving the efficiency of legislative functions. The expansion is also aimed at accommodating future needs as the state continues to grow.
“We are committed to ensuring that the House of Assembly remains functional and up-to-date with modern standards of operation. The renovation of the legislative complex is long overdue, and this investment will significantly improve our capacity to serve the people of Nasarawa State more effectively,” said Hon. Abdullahi.
In addition to the legislative complex project, the House of Assembly has earmarked N960 million for the development of health centres across various constituencies. This move underscores the Assembly's commitment to improving healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved communities. The funds will be utilized for upgrading existing facilities, equipping health centres with essential medical supplies, and providing infrastructure support to ensure better access to healthcare for the people of Nasarawa State.
The Speaker also highlighted that the funds allocated to health centres are part of a broader initiative to enhance healthcare accessibility and meet the needs of growing populations in different regions of the state.
“Public health is one of our top priorities. These projects will ensure that residents, particularly those in remote areas, have access to quality healthcare services close to their homes,” he stated.
In addition to healthcare, the Assembly is also focusing on other constituency-based development projects that address local needs such as education, road infrastructure, and water supply. Hon. Abdullahi emphasized that the allocation is a direct response to feedback from the people, who have expressed concerns over infrastructural deficiencies.
