The House of Representatives has made an urgent appeal to the Federal Government to provide immediate relief materials to communities in Edo State affected by recent flooding. This call comes in response to the devastating impact of the floods on the Ekeke and Amoya-Otuo communities in Owan East Local Government Area.

During a plenary session, the House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, highlighted the extensive damage caused by the disaster, including the destruction of homes, infrastructure, farmlands, and livelihoods. The floods also left the affected communities in darkness, as electric poles and solar streetlights were destroyed.

Prof. Ihonvbere emphasized the dire need for emergency assistance, including food, medical supplies, and the reconstruction of critical infrastructure. While commending the efforts of the Edo State Government and local authorities, he stressed that the scale of the disaster requires additional support from the Federal Government.

The House has urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide essential relief items such as food, water, blankets, mats, shelter, and medical supplies. Additionally, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has been called upon to address the urgent needs of the affected communities.
