In a tragic incident, gunmen have killed the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Herders' Union in Kwara State, leaving the local community and the association in shock and mourning.
The attack occurred late yesterday evening when the Chairman, whose identity is currently being withheld pending family notification, was ambushed by armed assailants in his home village located in the northern region of the state. Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots before the Chairman was found dead at the scene. Security forces have since launched an investigation into the attack.
The Miyetti Allah Herders' Union, a prominent association representing the interests of Fulani herders across Nigeria, condemned the violent act and expressed deep concern over the increasing attacks on leaders within the pastoral community.
A representative of the Union called for immediate action from law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of herders in the region. The Union also urged both state and federal authorities to address the rising incidents of violence against herders, which have escalated in recent months.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but sources suggest that it may be linked to ongoing tensions between herders and local farmers in the area, as well as broader security challenges affecting the region.
