Amnesty International has strongly condemned the alleged threats and intimidation directed at a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member following her public criticism of President Bola Tinubu's administration. The corps member, who expressed her frustration over escalating economic hardship in a viral TikTok video, has reportedly faced backlash, including threatening messages from NYSC officials.

The global human rights organization emphasized that freedom of expression is a fundamental right enshrined in both the Nigerian Constitution and international human rights laws. Amnesty International stated, "It is perfectly within her right to express discontent peacefully. Instead of threatening her for her opinions on rampant inflation, the authorities should prioritize addressing the country’s economic woes."

The corps member's video highlighted the rising cost of living and the financial struggles faced by millions of Nigerians. Following its circulation, she alleged that NYSC officials pressured her to delete the video and issued threats against her for voicing her concerns.

Amnesty International has called on the Nigerian government and the NYSC to immediately cease any actions that suppress dissenting voices. "The Nigerian authorities must stop responding with violence and threats to individuals and groups who express dissenting opinions. Holding and voicing dissenting views is not a crime," the organization added.
