In a decisive move to enhance the safety and security of Kano State, Governor Yusuf has officially signed into law the Kano Security Neighbourhood Watch Law. The legislation is set to address the rising wave of crime in the state and ensure that residents can live and work in a safer environment.
The new law establishes a community-based security initiative that empowers local residents to play a direct role in preventing and responding to criminal activities. By working in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies, the Kano Security Neighbourhood Watch will bolster intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rapid response to emerging threats.
Governor Yusuf, in his remarks following the signing ceremony, emphasized the importance of community involvement in securing the state. “This law marks a pivotal step in the fight against crime in Kano. It is a proactive approach that encourages collaboration between the people and security agencies to create safer neighborhoods,” he said.
The law provides for the formation of neighborhood watch groups that will be trained to detect and report criminal activities, support police operations, and promote community awareness. These groups will operate under the supervision of the state’s security agencies, ensuring proper coordination and effectiveness.
Governor Yusuf also highlighted that the law would focus on areas with higher crime rates, with the ultimate goal of reducing insecurity and building trust between the public and law enforcement.
“This initiative not only aims to curb criminal activities but also to foster a sense of unity among the people of Kano. We all have a role to play in ensuring the safety and prosperity of our state,” Governor Yusuf added.
