The Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has instructed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to extend its mobilization program to Nigerian polytechnic graduates, who were previously excluded from the national service scheme.
In a move aimed at ensuring greater inclusivity and maximizing the potential of Nigeria’s youth workforce, the Minister emphasized that the decision is in line with the Federal Government's commitment to fostering national integration, promoting youth empowerment, and utilizing the skills of Nigerian graduates in the service of the nation.
Historically, graduates from Nigerian polytechnics were excluded from participating in the NYSC program, a policy that has faced significant criticism for limiting the opportunities of these skilled individuals. With this new directive, polytechnic graduates will now be included in the mobilization process alongside their university counterparts, providing them with the same opportunity to serve and contribute to national development.
“This step is vital to ensure that no segment of our educated youth is left behind,” said Mallam Adamu Adamu. “By mobilizing polytechnic graduates, we are not only giving them the chance to participate in national service but also recognizing the importance of technical and vocational education in the development of our nation.”
The Education Ministry further emphasized that this inclusive approach is expected to enhance the quality of the NYSC program and create a more diverse pool of skilled professionals, contributing to various sectors, including education, healthcare, engineering, and technology.
