In a move aimed at alleviating the financial challenges faced by student leaders across Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the extension of palliative support to all Presidents of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) nationwide.
The initiative, which underscores the President’s commitment to the well-being of students, will provide targeted financial assistance to SUG Presidents, enabling them to carry out their leadership responsibilities effectively and support the needs of their fellow students. The funding is also intended to promote student welfare, enhance campus activities, and ease the burden of administrative operations in student unions.
President Tinubu, in a statement issued earlier today, emphasized that students are integral to Nigeria’s development and must be empowered to lead in various capacities. He noted that SUG Presidents play a critical role in representing student interests, advocating for academic excellence, and fostering unity within the student body.
“This palliative initiative is aimed at recognizing the significant role student leaders play in shaping the future of our nation. We understand the challenges faced by these young leaders, and through this support, we are ensuring they have the resources to continue serving their peers and contributing to national progress,” said President Tinubu.
The disbursement of the palliative fund will be coordinated by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education. Further details on the distribution process will be communicated directly to the affected student leaders.
