A group of respected elders from Rivers State has condemned the recent actions of Governor Nyesom Wike, calling on him to issue a public apology to former Governor Dr. Peter Odili for what they termed as unwarranted and disrespectful remarks. The elders, representing various communities across the state, expressed their deep concern over the negative impact of the Governor's comments on the reputation and legacy of Dr. Odili, a respected statesman and a former Governor who played a pivotal role in the development of Rivers State.

In a statement released to the media, the Rivers elders emphasized that Dr. Odili’s contributions to the state and his exemplary leadership during his tenure should be respected by all, regardless of political differences. They called on Governor Wike to demonstrate statesmanship by publicly retracting his comments and offering a formal apology to Dr. Odili.

“We are deeply troubled by the recent attack on Dr. Peter Odili by Governor Wike. Dr. Odili is a man of honor, and his legacy of service to Rivers State and Nigeria should not be tarnished by baseless allegations. We demand that Governor Wike issue a public apology to Dr. Odili for the remarks he made, which were not only unjust but also divisive,” said Chief Emma Asari, spokesperson for the group of elders.

The elders noted that Rivers State has always been known for its rich tradition of unity, respect, and mutual cooperation, and they expressed concern that such inflammatory rhetoric could jeopardize the social fabric of the state. They further urged all political leaders in the state to put the interests of the people first and avoid actions that could undermine the collective progress of the state.

Dr. Peter Odili, who served as Governor from 1999 to 2007, has been lauded for his role in the socio-economic development of Rivers State, particularly in areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, and education. His leadership and vision continue to inspire many across the state.
