In a shocking revelation that calls into question the integrity of the Labour Party (LP), the former governorship candidate of the party in Bayelsa State.
According to the former candidate, who withdrew from the gubernatorial race citing irregularities, he was forced to pay an inflated N25 million for a nomination form that was officially priced at N15 million. The former candidate expressed his disappointment in the party, accusing them of perpetuating the very practices they claim to be fighting against.
“Imagine my shock when I was told to pay N25 million for a form that should have cost N15 million. The system is broken, and the Labour Party, which claims to be a beacon of hope for Nigeria, is just as rotten as the political establishment it seeks to challenge,” the former candidate said.
The statement sheds light on the increasing corruption within political parties in Nigeria, even those that market themselves as alternatives to the ruling elites. The former candidate further stated that the outrageous payment demanded by the party leadership was a prime example of how the political system remains entrenched in greed, self-interest, and exploitation.
“This isn't just about money; it's about the principles of fairness, justice, and transparency. How can the Labour Party present itself as a credible alternative when its own house is in disarray? They preach change, but what they practice is the same old politics that have plagued Nigeria for years,” he continued.
The former candidate also made a call for internal reform within the party and for an overhaul of the political culture in Nigeria. He emphasized that if the Labour Party truly wants to represent the people, it must begin by adopting transparent, ethical practices that align with the values of accountability and integrity.
