In a resolute address to military personnel, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria, has called on troops to aggressively pursue and neutralize criminal elements threatening the nation's security. This directive comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance operational effectiveness in combating terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent crime that have plagued various regions of Nigeria.

During a recent visit to troops stationed in the northern region, General Musa emphasized the importance of vigilance and proactive engagement in identifying and dismantling criminal networks. "Look for bad guys wherever they hide and take them down," he instructed the soldiers, reinforcing the need for relentless efforts in safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the military in 2024, General Musa expressed optimism for 2025, stating, "Our plan is to do more to bring lasting peace to Nigerians. The enemy is not sleeping, and we will not rest until we get it right." He acknowledged the invaluable support from President Bola Tinubu and urged continued collaboration between military forces and local communities to enhance intelligence gathering and operational success.

The CDS also addressed concerns regarding military conduct, urging troops to maintain professionalism and integrity in their operations. "You must be fair and impartial. That’s the only way to deal with criminals. Go after the criminals, not innocent civilians," he stressed, underscoring the critical role of trust between the military and the public.

In light of recent security incidents that have resulted in significant loss of life, including a tragic attack that claimed 21 lives in Katsina State earlier this month, General Musa's call to action is both timely and necessary. The Nigerian military has been tasked with intensifying its operations as part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring peace and stability across affected regions.
