Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist any attempts by the government to infringe upon their constitutional rights.

In a statement issued today, Atiku expressed deep concern over recent developments he described as alarming, where certain government actions appear to threaten the fundamental freedoms and rights guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

“At this critical juncture in our nation’s history, it is imperative that every Nigerian stands firm in defense of their rights. No government has the right to trample on the freedoms we hold dear, including freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and the right to participate in the democratic process,” Atiku said.

The former vice president emphasized that democracy is built on the foundation of free and fair participation of the people. He warned that any attempt by the government to silence opposition or curtail the freedoms of the people must be met with resistance from all citizens who value the principles of democracy, justice, and equality.

“We must not allow ourselves to be passive bystanders as the government encroaches on the rights of Nigerians. Our voices, our votes, and our commitment to justice must be loud and clear. Let us not forget the sacrifices made to bring us to this point of democratic governance. We must protect it at all costs,” Atiku added.

The PDP stalwart reaffirmed his commitment to defending the rights of Nigerians, urging them to remain united in ensuring that democracy continues to thrive in the country. He also called on international stakeholders and civil society organizations to monitor the situation closely and offer support to Nigerians in their quest for justice and human rights.
