The Nigerian Police Force has successfully apprehended a resident of Abuja suspected of stockpiling a significant cache of firearms, military uniforms, and boots. The arrest was made on December 26, 2024, at a guest house in the Federal Capital Territory following an incident involving gunfire that resulted in the injury of a 29-year-old man, Andrew Philemon.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was taken into custody after police received actionable intelligence regarding the illegal possession of weapons and military-grade equipment. Upon investigation, officers discovered a collection of firearms, including several handguns and ammunition, alongside sets of military uniforms and boots.
"This operation underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities," stated M.B. Abdulkadir, Police Public Relations Officer for the Zone 7 Command. "We are dedicated to combating illegal arms proliferation and will continue to act decisively against individuals who threaten public safety."
The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the suspect's activities and potential connections to broader criminal networks. Authorities are also examining whether these firearms were intended for use in violent crimes or if they were part of a larger scheme involving organized crime.
