The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted several multi-billion-naira drug shipments at the Apapa seaport in Lagos, marking a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
During a coordinated operation involving NDLEA operatives and officials from the Nigeria Customs Service, authorities uncovered containers concealing illicit drugs valued at approximately N3.3 billion. These shipments included large quantities of Methamphetamine and "Loud," a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, intended for distribution during the upcoming holiday season.
The NDLEA's Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the efforts of the agency's operatives, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and collaboration among law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking. "These interceptions are a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the health and security of our citizens. We will continue to intensify our operations to dismantle drug syndicates operating within and beyond our borders," he stated.
In addition to the recent seizures, NDLEA operatives have been actively involved in various operations across the country, leading to significant drug confiscations and arrests of key cartel members. This includes a previous operation where over 31 million opioid pills were seized at the same seaport, further highlighting the persistent threat posed by drug traffickers.
