The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched a state-of-the-art 24-hour Control Centre aimed at monitoring all international airports and land entry points across the nation. This initiative, confirmed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is a strategic move to enhance border security and curb illegal migration into the country.

The newly established Regular Migration Control Centre, located at the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Sauka, Abuja, commenced operations on November 12, 2024. The centre is equipped with advanced technology, including the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), which allows for pre-profiling of passengers prior to their arrival in Nigeria. This system integrates with global databases, including INTERPOL, enabling comprehensive tracking of travelers' histories and movements.

Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the significance of this initiative during a recent media appearance: “Our nation’s border security capabilities have just gotten better. This command centre will not only monitor our international airports but will also expand to include land and maritime entry points as we enhance our surveillance capabilities.”

The establishment of this control centre is part of a broader strategy by the Nigerian government to strengthen national security through innovative technological solutions. The Minister highlighted that this initiative aligns with international best practices in immigration management and border control.

Minister Tunji-Ojo reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders: “This is a giant leap forward in our efforts to secure our nation. By leveraging technology and enhancing inter-agency cooperation, we are taking decisive steps to manage migration effectively and protect our sovereignty.”
