In a move aimed at ensuring the safety and security of voters, the Nigerian military has announced the deployment of soldiers to Ondo State in anticipation of the upcoming governorship election. The deployment, which is part of broader efforts to maintain peace and order during the electoral process, is designed to safeguard citizens as they cast their votes.

The military's intervention follows concerns about potential security challenges in the state, with authorities prioritizing the protection of lives and property. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the soldiers will be stationed in strategic locations across Ondo State, including voting centers and sensitive areas, to prevent any disruptions and to provide a secure environment for the electorate.

“The deployment of troops is not intended to interfere with the democratic process but to ensure that citizens are able to vote in a peaceful and secure environment. We are committed to upholding the integrity of the election process and safeguarding the right of every eligible voter in Ondo State.”

The military also called on political parties, their supporters, and all stakeholders to respect the electoral process, adhere to the laws of the land, and refrain from violence or unlawful activities. They assured that any act of electoral malpractice or violence would be met with swift action.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also expressed its support for the military's efforts, affirming that the presence of security forces will contribute to a peaceful atmosphere conducive to a transparent and credible election.
