The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully apprehended Olu Marshal, a software engineer based in Lekki, during an operation at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on November 5, 2024. Marshal was arrested as he attempted to collect a consignment containing illicit drugs.
The arrest occurred when NDLEA operatives intercepted a package containing Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing approximately 700 grams. Upon his arrival to collect the package from the airport's import shed, Marshal was taken into custody. A subsequent search of his residence in Lekki revealed additional drug paraphernalia, including a cannabis crusher, further implicating him in drug-related activities.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, commended the officers involved in this operation. "This arrest underscores our commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting our communities from the dangers associated with illicit substances," he stated.
This operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking activities across Nigeria, which has seen significant seizures and arrests in recent weeks. The NDLEA has intensified its efforts to dismantle drug syndicates and curb the inflow of narcotics into the country.
In related operations within the same timeframe, NDLEA agents have seized over 31 million pills of controlled opioids and various other drugs valued at billions of naira from multiple locations across Lagos and beyond. These efforts reflect the agency's ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative aimed at reducing both drug supply and demand nationwide.
