In a notable development, Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed for Sweden today for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Scandinavian nation. This trip comes at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently abroad on his annual leave in the United Kingdom.

Vice President Shettima's visit is officially at the behest of President Tinubu, who is utilizing this period to reflect on economic reforms and engage in a working vacation.

During his time in Sweden, Shettima is scheduled to engage in high-level talks with key officials, including a meeting with Crown Princess Victoria and the Swedish Prime Minister. The Vice President aims to explore collaborative opportunities in various sectors such as information and communication technology (ICT), education, sustainable transport, mining, and agriculture.

According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication, the visit will also feature discussions with Norrsken, a Stockholm-based venture capital firm that recently launched a $205 million tech investment fund focused on Africa. This engagement is expected to provide valuable insights into how Nigerian entrepreneurs can leverage this fund to bolster the technology ecosystem in Nigeria.

While Shettima represents Nigeria abroad, President Tinubu remains in the UK for a two-week leave, which he commenced earlier today. His spokesperson has clarified that this break is intended for rest and reflection on his administration’s policies. The President is expected to return following the conclusion of his leave.

The simultaneous absence of both leaders has raised questions about governance continuity during this period. However, officials assure that measures are in place to ensure that government functions continue seamlessly.
