Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West, has officially donated a newly constructed military base to the Nigerian Army, aimed at addressing the escalating insecurity in Kogi State and its neighboring regions. The inauguration ceremony took place on Saturday at the base located on the outskirts of Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area.
In his address during the inauguration, Senator Karimi emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures in light of rising criminal activities, particularly along the Kogi-Kwara border. "The idea for this military base was conceived in January of this year to assist the Nigerian military and security agencies in ensuring rapid responses to terrorist threats, kidnappings, and other criminal activities that have become a national concern," he stated.
Senator Karimi expressed hope that this initiative would serve as a deterrent to criminal elements and restore peace within communities across Kogi and Kwara states. "By establishing this base, we are not only supporting our military but also reaffirming our commitment to safeguarding the lives of our citizens," he added.
Usman Ododo, the Governor of Kogi State, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Jerry Omadara, commended Senator Karimi for his proactive approach in fulfilling his responsibility to constituents. He remarked, "This forward operating base will provide safety for our people and allow the Nigerian Army to take firm control of security in Yagba East and beyond."
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by Major General Obinna Onubogu, praised the senator's dedication to enhancing national security. "This partnership reassures us that the public values our efforts to combat insecurity across Nigeria," he noted.
The establishment of this military base is expected to play a pivotal role in securing not only Kogi State but also neighboring regions due to its strategic location.
