Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urgently called on the Nigerian government to take decisive action following the tragic killings of 16 young men in Nibo, Anambra State. The incident occurred during the Onwa Asaa traditional festival when gunmen attacked an eatery, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
In a heartfelt statement shared on his social media platform, Obi expressed profound sadness over the senseless violence that has claimed innocent lives. He stated, "Life is sacred, and no one has the right to take it. Such heinous actions reveal a disturbing disregard for human dignity and the rule of law."
Obi emphasized that these killings represent not only a personal tragedy for the families affected but also a significant loss for the entire state and nation. He urged authorities to act swiftly to apprehend those responsible for this horrific crime, asserting that "Nigeria must become a nation where safety and justice prevail over violence and lawlessness."
The former governor of Anambra State extended his condolences to the victims' families and the Nibo community, highlighting the need for collective action to address the underlying issues contributing to such violence. He stated, "Our nation cannot progress if we allow violence to become the norm. We must work collectively to address this growing menace."
Obi's call for justice comes at a critical time when citizens are increasingly demanding accountability and safety from their leaders. He reiterated that it is imperative for the government to prioritize the protection of its citizens and ensure that justice is served.
