The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has officially arraigned Awuawe Clement, the former Registrar of the Benue State School of Health Technology, Agasha, for his alleged involvement in admission racketeering.
Clement faces serious allegations of collecting and diverting a total of N4,466,500 from unsuspecting admission seekers. These funds were reportedly received after the official closure of sales for admission forms in 2019. The ICPC has brought three charges against him, including making false statements to Commission officers during the investigation, which is a violation of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
Between 2018 and 2019, while serving as a public officer, Clement allegedly used his position to unlawfully enrich himself by continuing to sell admission forms after the official sales period had ended.
Upon being presented with the charges, Clement pleaded not guilty. His legal counsel, Mr. Kelvin Iorzenda, submitted a bail application on his behalf, which was not opposed by the prosecution.
Justice Egbe Raphael presided over the case and granted bail to Clement in the amount of N2,000,000, requiring him to provide one surety of equivalent value. The surety must be a public or civil servant at either the federal or state level and must submit necessary documentation to the court.
