Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has shared his expert advice on how Nigeria can secure victory against Libya in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, despite the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen.
Rohr, who led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at AFCON 2019, emphasized the depth and quality of the Nigerian squad. “Nigeria has a wealth of talent and can certainly win these crucial matches even without Osimhen,” Rohr stated. “The key will be to maintain a high level of play and leverage the strengths of other players.”
The Super Eagles will face Libya in a doubleheader, with the first match scheduled for October 12, 2024. Osimhen, who is sidelined due to a muscle injury, will not be available for these fixtures. However, Rohr remains confident in the team’s ability to perform. “Libya is a team with a lot of character and temperament. Nigeria must stay focused and play to their strengths,” he advised.
Rohr highlighted the importance of a solid defensive strategy and effective midfield control. “Nigeria should focus on maintaining possession and creating opportunities through quick transitions,” he explained. “The defense must be vigilant and organized to counter Libya’s attacks.”
Super Eagles head coach, José Peseiro, has echoed Rohr’s sentiments, expressing confidence in the squad’s ability to adapt and overcome challenges. “We have a strong team, and every player is ready to step up,” Peseiro said. “Our preparation has been thorough, and we are determined to secure our place in AFCON 2025.”
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has also expressed support for the team, urging fans to rally behind the Super Eagles. “We believe in our players and coaching staff,” said NFF President Amaju Pinnick. “With the right mindset and strategy, we are confident of a positive outcome.”
As the Super Eagles gear up for these pivotal matches, the nation eagerly anticipates their performance. Fans are encouraged to show their support and cheer for the team as they strive to make history once again.
