She spoke in a town hall meeting in Abuja, alongside the vice presidential candidate's Wife, Hajiya Aisha Baba Ahmed where they expressed a great disappointment that despite women making up 49 percent of the eligible population in the country they are often offered less in the present administration.
Margaret said June statistics released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the watch of Prof Mahmood Yakubu showed that women and youth made up the highest percentage of registered voters in Nigeria.
She asked why should we women suffer in silence. “This is why we are making this urgent call to women, you can and must empower the nation to birth the new Nigeria we dream of. When things go wrong, women are the ones that suffer the most. I, therefore encourage you to look at what the candidates have to offer you as women.”
She further explained that the “Obi-Datti policies show women that a new Nigeria where women take their rightful place is possible and that “men have a higher default rate, noting that the Obi-Datti pact with women is that they will ensure increased access to empowerment for women. We know that more money in the hands of women equates to a better life for our children. We are the ones that are raising the leaders of tomorrow.”
Aisha Yesufu tweeted on her verified Twitter handler where she said that women play a key role in getting the men into the office and when they get to power they tell us "we belong to the kitchen or the other room" We are here to say We belong to Nigeria. We will build a Nation where there's justice & equity.
