The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to its elected governors, party chieftains, and stakeholders against endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any candidate outside the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party leadership emphasized that such actions constitute anti-party activities and will attract swift and decisive sanctions.
In a statement released today by the National Publicity Secretary, the PDP reaffirmed its commitment to internal discipline and party loyalty, stressing that the party will not tolerate any form of betrayal or political cross-alignment that undermines its strategic objectives for 2027.
“The PDP remains the only viable alternative to the current administration. Any member, no matter how highly placed, who openly endorses a rival party or its candidate will face disciplinary measures in accordance with our constitution,” the statement read.
The warning comes amid growing speculation that some PDP governors and influential figures may be considering alliances with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leader, President Tinubu, in the lead-up to the next presidential election. The PDP leadership has described such moves as “reckless” and “a sabotage of the collective will of the party faithful.”
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has reportedly convened a series of emergency meetings to address internal cohesion and reinforce loyalty among its ranks. Party insiders suggest that a disciplinary framework is being updated to include stiffer penalties for defection, endorsement of rival candidates, and other forms of political misconduct.
“We are rebuilding trust with Nigerians, and we cannot afford to send mixed signals. The party must speak with one voice, and that voice must be rooted in our values and vision for a better Nigeria,” said a senior PDP official.
