The Take It Back (TIB) Movement has issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as “tyranny in uniform,” following the detention of Inspector Emoruwa Olabode and six other officers over their support for the upcoming #PoliceProtest scheduled for July 21, 2025.

Inspector Emoruwa, attached to the Idanre Police Station in Ondo State, was reportedly arrested and transferred to Abuja after sharing a WhatsApp message advocating for improved welfare and working conditions within the Nigeria Police Force. The protest, which has gained momentum among both serving and retired officers, aims to spotlight long-standing grievances including poor remuneration, lack of benefits, and systemic neglect.

In a statement signed by National Coordinator Sanyaolu Juwon, the TIB Movement declared: “The arrest and solitary confinement of Inspector Emoruwa for exercising his right to free expression is a blatant abuse of power. It is unacceptable that officers who dare to speak out for justice are being silenced and punished.”

Civil rights activist Omoyele Sowore has joined the call for justice, emphasizing the need for transparency and respect for human rights within law enforcement institutions.

TIB warns that failure to release the detained officers and address the underlying issues could escalate tensions and undermine public trust in the Nigeria Police Force. The group urges Nigerians to stand in solidarity with those who risk their freedom to demand a better future for all.
