The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued a strong call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging his administration to take decisive action against individuals and entities allegedly involved in the misappropriation of over ₦6 trillion from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2000 and 2019.

In a statement signed by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization demanded that the President “name, shame, and prosecute” all those indicted in the Forensic Audit Report submitted to the federal government in 2021.

“The staggering scale of corruption uncovered in the NDDC audit is a betrayal of the people of the Niger Delta and a gross violation of public trust,” said Oluwadare. “President Tinubu must demonstrate that his administration will not shield perpetrators of grand corruption.”

The audit revealed that over 13,000 projects were abandoned, and 362 bank accounts were operated without proper authorization, contributing to the alleged theft of trillions of naira.

SERAP emphasized that transparency and accountability are essential to restoring public confidence and ensuring justice for communities long deprived of development.

“The victims of this corruption are the millions of Nigerians in the Niger Delta who continue to suffer from poverty, pollution, and underdevelopment,” the statement added.
