At least six civilians have been killed following a series of Russian drone and missile strikes across eastern and southern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian regional authorities. The attacks mark a continued escalation in hostilities as diplomatic efforts to broker peace remain stalled.
Three fatalities were reported, including two in Kamyanske district after a drone strike ignited a fire. A third victim, a 52-year-old man, was killed in a separate attack. Three additional deaths occurred in these partially occupied territories, where Russian forces targeted residential areas and infrastructure.
Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed that Russia launched 35 long-range drones overnight. Though a relatively low number compared to previous waves, the strikes caused significant damage to administrative buildings, homes, and public facilities.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, describing them as “deliberate and despicable terror.” He reiterated calls for increased international support, including sanctions against entities aiding Russia’s drone production and oil exports.
Ukraine is reportedly nearing a multi-level agreement to acquire additional Patriot air defense systems, aiming to bolster its capacity to intercept incoming threats.
The attacks come amid heightened tensions and a lack of progress in ceasefire negotiations. Western allies, including the United States, have expressed concern over the intensifying violence, with President Donald Trump warning of “massive new sanctions” should Russia fail to pursue peace.
