The Kano State Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic deaths of two students at Government Secondary School, Bichi, following a violent assault allegedly carried out by fellow students.
The deceased, identified as Hamza Idris (19) and Umar Yusuf (18), were reportedly attacked late Sunday night by a group of senior students who lured them into a hostel and assaulted them with improvised metal objects. Two other students, Ibrahim Ibrahim and Aliyu M. Nasir, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Bichi General Hospital.
In response to the incident, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, Kano State Commissioner of Education, has directed a full-scale probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack. “This is a deeply disturbing event. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that such acts of violence are never repeated in our schools,” said Dr. Makoda, speaking through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad.
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 12 senior students in connection with the assault. Investigations are ongoing, and those found culpable will face prosecution under the law.
The government has extended its condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public of its commitment to student safety. “We urge all students to report grievances through proper channels and refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” said Abbas Abdullahi, Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board.
