The Zaria Local Government Council has confirmed the detention of two individuals in connection with a Facebook post alleging that land and shops in the Kofar Doka area were gifted to the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. The post, which circulated widely on social media, claimed that the allocation was part of a corrupt arrangement involving public property.
In an official statement issued by Ishaq Galadima, Special Adviser and Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government, the Council categorically denied the allegations, describing them as “politically motivated and misleading.” The land in question, according to the Council, was part of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement signed in August 2024 with Rich-view Global Nigeria Limited—months before the current administration assumed office.
The Council emphasized that the agreement did not involve gifting land to any individual and that the claims made in the Facebook post were false. Following a formal complaint, law enforcement authorities initiated an investigation. One suspect was arrested after allegedly ignoring police invitations and was arraigned before a magistrate court on July 6, 2025. The original poster remains at large.
The Zaria Local Government reiterated that the arrest process followed due legal procedure and warned against politicizing the matter. “We urge the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and to seek accurate information through proper legal and administrative channels,” the statement read.
