Concerns over integrity within the Nigeria Police Force have deepened as allegations surface against CP Ohiozoba Oyakhire Ehiede, the current Head of Legal at the Nigeria Police Force. Reports indicate that Ehiede is accused of falsifying his service records, allegedly altering his date of birth to extend his tenure
Two non-governmental organizations, Safe The Soul Transparency and Eagle Eyes International Foundation, have formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, urging a thorough investigation into the matter. The petitions claim that Ehiede changed his official birth date from April 18, 1965, to September 18, 1965, effectively postponing his retirement from April 18, 2025, to September 18, 2025.
The allegations come amid broader concerns about record falsification within the force. Former police prosecutor Simon Lough, along with several other senior officers, is also facing scrutiny for allegedly manipulating service records to extend their tenure beyond legal limits.
Transparency advocates argue that such actions undermine public trust in law enforcement and violate established service regulations. “Accountability must apply to all members of the Nigeria Police Force, regardless of rank, to preserve the force’s integrity,” said Josia Agim, Secretary of Safe The Soul Transparency Foundation.
