The Obidient Movement has condemned the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for policies they claim have reduced the value of Nigerian lives to mere statistics. In a statement issued today, the group accused the administration of systemic neglect, economic mismanagement, and human rights violations that have led to widespread suffering across the country.
Dr. Tanko Yunusa, Interim Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, stated, “Under the current administration, life has become a cheap commodity. Nigerians are dying from hunger, insecurity, and preventable diseases, while the government remains indifferent. The policies of the APC have not only failed to address these issues but have exacerbated them.”
The removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the Naira have led to soaring inflation, making basic necessities unaffordable for many Nigerians. The group described these economic reforms as “anti-people” policies that have plunged citizens into deeper poverty .
The group referenced the #EndBadGovernance protests of August 2024, where security forces reportedly killed over 20 protesters and arrested more than 1,000 individuals. These protests were a response to the escalating cost of living and perceived government inaction .
The Obidient Movement accused the APC of undermining democratic processes and stifling dissent. They pointed to the arrest of journalists and activists covering protests as evidence of the administration's authoritarian tendencies.
In response to these issues, the Obidient Movement has vowed to intensify its efforts to mobilize citizens for the 2027 general elections. The group is calling for a united front to challenge the APC's grip on power and to advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being of Nigerians.
“We will not stand by while our fellow citizens suffer,” said Dr. Yunusa. “The Obidient Movement is committed to holding the APC accountable and ensuring that the voices of the Nigerian people are heard.
