Amid escalating security challenges across Nigeria, sources have revealed that police commands are struggling to function effectively due to the government's failure to release quarterly allocations. This financial strain has reportedly forced police units to seek alternative funding, including soliciting support from state governors and engaging in corrupt practices to sustain operations.

According to reports, the lack of timely financial disbursement has severely impacted law enforcement agencies, limiting their ability to procure essential resources, maintain operational readiness, and support officers in the field. The situation has exacerbated concerns over rising crime rates and the inability of security forces to adequately respond to threats.

A recent study highlights that a significant percentage of Nigerians perceive the police as corrupt and untrustworthy, with many officers allegedly resorting to extortion and bribery to compensate for financial shortfalls. Experts warn that without urgent intervention, the integrity of Nigeria’s security apparatus may continue to erode, further endangering citizens and undermining public trust in law enforcement.

Civil society organizations and security analysts are calling on the federal government to address the funding crisis and ensure that police commands receive their allocations promptly. They emphasize that sustainable security solutions require adequate financial support, transparency, and accountability in resource management.
