Panic and unrest have engulfed the Makogi community in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State following disturbing allegations that the traditional ruler, Oba Babatunde Sonola, is using cult groups to intimidate and harass residents.
According to multiple eyewitnesses and community sources, heavily armed men suspected to be cultists invaded the area in recent days, threatening locals, destroying farmlands, and causing general panic. Several residents allege that these individuals are acting on the orders of the monarch, who is said to be involved in a longstanding land dispute with certain factions within the community.
“We are living in fear. They come in large numbers, some with weapons. They claim to be acting for the king. People are afraid to go to their farms or speak out,” said a local farmer who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.
Reports indicate that the suspected cultists have taken over parts of the community, with little to no response from security agencies despite multiple complaints from residents. The silence of law enforcement has further fueled fears that the community is being abandoned in the face of growing violence and lawlessness.
