Nigerian Police IG Egbetokun Orders Probe Into Killing of 14-Year-Old WAEC Candidate in Ibadan; Officer Detained

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the tragic killing of a 14-year-old student who was preparing for the ongoing West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations in Ibadan, Oyo State.




The student was fatally shot on Monday, May 20, during an incident involving a police officer attached to the Oyo State Command. In response to public outcry and the gravity of the incident, the officer responsible has been arrested and placed in custody pending the outcome of internal investigations.




The IGP expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, describing the death of the young student as “a painful and avoidable tragedy.” He assured the public that justice will be served without delay.
