In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs ingeniously concealed in chocolate tins. The seizure, which took place at strategic locations in Lagos and Port Harcourt, included over 3.5 million opioid pills and more than 160,000 bottles of codeine syrup, with an estimated street value of N3.4 billion.

The operation was the result of credible intelligence and coordinated surveillance efforts targeting a transnational drug syndicate attempting to export the drugs under the guise of food products. During the inspection of several cargo shipments intended for international delivery, NDLEA officers discovered the drugs meticulously packed within branded chocolate tins and other deceptive packaging materials.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), praised the agency’s operatives for their vigilance and tactical precision.

“This seizure is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the NDLEA to protect the country from the devastating impact of drug abuse and trafficking. The traffickers went to great lengths to disguise these drugs, but our officers’ diligence and expertise prevailed,” said Gen. Marwa.

The agency is intensifying its efforts to dismantle drug networks and prevent the proliferation of addictive substances that threaten public health and national security. The latest interception highlights the evolving tactics employed by traffickers and the importance of continued vigilance and international cooperation.
