Governor Umo Eno has issued a decisive directive to his cabinet members and political appointees, instructing them to either align with his political transition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign from their positions.
During a State Executive Council meeting held in Uyo, Governor Eno reaffirmed his commitment to defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, citing his admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and his desire to work more closely with the Federal Government.
The Governor emphasized that his decision should not come as a surprise to his appointees, stating, “Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave PDP is still living in the 18th century.” He made it clear that apart from elected officials such as House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, he had no room for negotiation with those unwilling to follow his political direction.
Governor Eno’s move marks a significant shift in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, as the state has been under PDP leadership for over 25 years. Sources indicate that his official defection to the APC is expected to take place on June 6.
