The Benue State Government has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Retired Colonel Joseph Akaagerger, former military governor of Katsina State and former senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District (Zone A). He passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 69.
Governor Hyacinth Alia expressed profound grief over the loss of the distinguished statesman, describing him as a patriotic Nigerian who dedicated his life to serving Benue State and the nation.
Throughout his career, Col. Akaagerger made significant contributions in politics, business, community service, and philanthropy. His tenure as a senator and military governor was marked by dedication, leadership, and commitment to national development.
Governor Alia emphasized that the late Colonel’s wisdom and guidance will be sorely missed, particularly in his role as a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue.
