Former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has voiced strong criticism of the current political developments in Nigeria, declaring that he and former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, would have taken a bold stand against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration if they were still in office as state governors.
Speaking during a recent political gathering, Amaechi expressed concerns about what he described as “a steady erosion of democratic principles” in the current political climate. He particularly referenced the increasing centralization of power at the federal level and controversial decisions affecting state governance without due consultation or constitutional backing.
“If Lamido and I were governors today, we would have confronted President Tinubu,” Amaechi said. “We would not sit back and watch democracy being undermined in the name of politics. Nigeria belongs to all of us, not just to those in power.”
Amaechi, known for his outspoken stance on governance and democratic values, emphasized the need for current political leaders—particularly state governors—to speak out against what he termed “a dangerous culture of silence and submission.”
