A witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has testified before the Federal High Court in Abuja, stating that no funds were transferred from the Kogi State Government or its local government areas to the American International School, Abuja (AISA) in relation to school fees payments.
The witness, Nicholas Ojehomon, an internal auditor at AISA, confirmed during cross-examination that after reviewing the school’s bank account statements, no transactions bearing the name of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello were found.
Justice Emeka Nwite ruled against the EFCC’s objection to the admissibility of a previous judgment from the Federal Capital Territory High Court, which had determined that payments made to AISA were not linked to any criminal activity. The court emphasized that admissibility of documents is governed by relevance and legal provisions, dismissing the prosecution’s argument that the defense could not present such evidence before the prosecution had closed its case.
