A whistleblower, who recently confessed to spreading false claims against critics of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), is now claiming that his life is in danger after receiving threatening messages from individuals affiliated with the church.

The whistleblower, who has remained anonymous for safety reasons, revealed that he was part of a coordinated effort to discredit and undermine those who publicly criticized MFM’s practices and leadership. In an exclusive statement, he confessed to fabricating malicious information aimed at damaging the reputation of church critics.

“I was coerced into participating in this campaign of misinformation, and after coming to my senses, I decided to expose the truth,” the whistleblower stated. “However, since making my confession, I’ve been inundated with threats from people who claim to be affiliated with MFM. They have made it clear that my safety is in jeopardy if I do not recant my statements.”

The whistleblower also disclosed that he has gone into hiding, fearing for his life and well-being. “I can no longer walk the streets freely or feel safe in my own home. The threats have escalated, and I’ve been advised by legal counsel to seek refuge away from public attention.”

This revelation adds to ongoing concerns about the influence and practices of MFM, one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential Pentecostal churches. Over the years, the church has faced criticism for its alleged cult-like behavior, authoritarian leadership style, and aggressive tactics toward critics. The whistleblower’s confession shines a new light on the lengths some individuals may go to protect the church’s image, even at the expense of truth and personal integrity.

In the wake of these troubling developments, human rights organizations and religious freedom advocates have expressed concern over the safety of the whistleblower and the broader implications of this case on freedom of speech and expression in Nigeria.

“We cannot stand by while individuals are threatened and intimidated into silence for speaking out against corruption or falsehood,” said a representative from the Nigerian Human Rights Commission. “It is crucial that both the church and the authorities take immediate steps to ensure the whistleblower's safety and address the ongoing harassment.”
