A large group of protesters on Monday stormed the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, demanding an immediate investigation into alleged financial misconduct and corruption by the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

The demonstrators, under the banner of the Coalition for Transparency and Economic Reform (CTER), marched to the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja with placards bearing bold inscriptions such as “Probe Mele Kyari Now!”, “No Sacred Cows in the Anti-Corruption Fight”, and “NNPCL Cannot Be Above the Law.”

According to the group, Kyari must be held accountable for a series of alleged irregularities during his tenure at the NNPCL, including questionable subsidy payments, opaque contract awards, and failure to remit oil revenues into the Federation Account. The protesters submitted a formal petition to the AGF, urging swift action and transparency in addressing the claims.

“The Nigerian people deserve answers,” said CTER’s spokesperson, Amina Yusuf. “The former NNPCL boss cannot be allowed to walk away from the billions of dollars in oil revenue unaccounted for during his leadership. We are calling on the AGF to initiate a full-scale probe and ensure justice is served.”

The AGF’s office acknowledged receipt of the petition and assured protesters that due process will be followed. A senior official, who addressed the crowd, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and pursuing justice without fear or favor.
